National Day for Truth & Reconciliation: Events & Links
On September 30th, communities across Canada will be observing the inaugural National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. This day fulfills #80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action. This day is meant to increase awareness about the impacts of the residential school system and to remember and honour those who have died, and their families, because of the violence and legacy of that system and to honour the survivors, and their families. It is a day to examine and to discuss the truths about the relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians as well as the past and current relationship with the Canadian government. We cannot have reconciliation without truth and justice. This day is a step towards reconciliation by acknowledging and educating about the truth and taking action for justice.
Please look to your local communities for events to observe the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
