Memorial March & Day to Honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls & Strawberry Ceremony
The Day to Honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls was created in response to the Women’s Memorial March, first held in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside in 1992. Valentine’s Day has been chosen as a day to hold the annual Strawberry Ceremony to memorialize Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Strawberries are called ode’min in the Ojibway language. Ode means heart and when cut open, strawberries look like a heart. Look to your community for local events.
