When: September 27  6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Where: The ArQuives  34 Isabella Street, Toronto

Join The ArQuives for the Toronto book launch of Criminalized Lives: HIV and Legal Violence from Rutgers University Press. Using storytelling, theory, and comic illustrations, this book examines firsthand accounts of people living with HIV who have been criminalized because of their status. The book also traces activist social movement response working to counter the harms of HIV criminalization under the slogan #HIVISNOTACRIME

The discussion includes Criminalized Lives author Alexander McClelland, along with activist and author Robert Suttle (who wrote the foreword to the book), queer comic illustrator Eric Kostiuk Williams (who illustrated for the book), lawyer Ryan Peck of the HIV and AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO), activists and advocates Muluba and Colin Johnson of the Canadian Coalition to Reform HIV Criminalization, and Desmond Cole of the No Pride in Policing Coalition.

This event will be moderated by Colin Hastings of the Canadian Coalition to Reform HIV Criminalization and the University of Waterloo, Department of Sociology and Socio-Legal Studies.

This event is free, but registration is required. Refreshments will be available after the event. This is a masked event.
