This is the result of improved HIV treatment, extended life expectancy, migration of people into Ontario, as well as new diagnoses.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" title=\"The Limitations of the Data\" target=\"_self\"  data-modal=  role=\"button\" aria-label=\"The Limitations of the Data\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Limitations of the Data\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<button aria-label=\"Close Flyout\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Limitations in the Data\n<\/h2><p>Data collected during HIV testing has historically excluded Trans and gender-diverse people. Starting in 2018 the data collection form was changed, and slowly the inclusion of these communities has improved. More work is needed to ensure data reflects the identities of those in our communities.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, epidemiological trends were skewed during the COVID-19 pandemic, impacting the data during these years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohesi.ca\/a-snapshot-of-hiv-diagnoses-and-the-hiv-care-cascade-among-women-in-ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OHESI: Snapshot of HIV Diagnoses and the HIV Care Cascade among women in Ontario (2022)<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" title=\"Gender Inclusion\" target=\"_self\"  data-modal=  role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Gender Inclusion\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGender Inclusion\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<button aria-label=\"Close Flyout\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>WHAI &#038; Gender Inclusion\n<\/h2><p>WHAI seeks to be informed by and amplify the experiences of those who face structural discrimination and exclusion, impacting HIV risk and the health outcomes of those living with HIV. As such, our work focuses on engagement with cis and Trans <strong>women<\/strong>, Two-Spirit and Non-Binary people who are living with HIV, African, Caribbean and Black (ACB), Indigenous, or newcomers, who use drugs or substances, have experiences with violence and\/or have been\/are incarcerated. Within these communities, our work includes those who are pregnant or parenting, living with different abilities, and span from young adults to seniors.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout our work, we seek to remember the importance of prioritising and centring communities of <strong>women<\/strong> who face disproportionate structural risk factors related to HIV, as well as being a reminder that gender is not binary, and the importance of thoughtfulness towards inclusivity for Trans, Two-Spirit, and Non-Binary people in WHAI work. In our work, we capitalise identities, except &#8220;cis.&#8221; This is to remind us of the privilege and space afforded cis people, and to support the amplification of identities outside gender-binary constructions.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/whai.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/whai-women-hiv-in-ontario-diagnoses.svg\" alt=\"whai-women-&amp;-hiv-in-ontario-diagnoses\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"whai-women-&amp;-hiv-in-ontario-diagnoses\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t25%\n\t\t\t\t\t24.7% of first time HIV diagnosis were female.<sup>1<\/sup>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/whai.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/icon_ribbon.svg\" alt=\"icon_ribbon\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"icon_ribbon\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t4,000\n\t\t\t\t\tThere are over 4,000 females living with diagnosed HIV in Ontario.<sup>2<\/sup>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tPopulations Most Impacted\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Social and structural  determinants of health significantly impact the lives of individuals and communities, putting some people at higher systemic risk for HIV than others.<sup>1, 2<\/sup> WHAI is working to address these inequalities in our work.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/whai.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/whai-priority-populations-diagram.svg\" alt=\"whai-priority-populations-diagram\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"whai-priority-populations-diagram\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/whai.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/whai-priority-populations-diagram.svg\" alt=\"whai-priority-populations-diagram\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"whai-priority-populations-diagram\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t1.
